Ladybridge Farm Area 5 Site Meeting Notes

Date: 23rd June 2010 3.00pm

Present: Lucie Hawkins NYCC (LH); Neil Redfern EH (NR); Steve Timms MGA (ST)

Introduction

A site meeting was held to review Area 5 following completion of the site works.  ST showed the group around to look at the excavated features.  The vast majority of soil features had proved to be natural in origin.  The remaining features comprised a series of post medieval boundaries and three parallel lines of post holes that formed a recent field boundary.  The eastern portion of the site was characterised by a large number of land drains. A single large sink hole had been exposed and partially excavated.

Discussion

  • ST explained that Area 5 had been completed in accordance with the sampling strategy outlined in the WSI.  LH and NR indicated that they were happy to sign off Area 5 on that basis and it could be handed over to the quarry for mineral extraction following confirmation in writing from North Yorkshire County Council.
  • Following the walkover of Area 5 NR agreed that the current northern extent of the excavation areas did not require to be modified as part of the iterative process.  The area to the north of Area 5 would therefore be investigated according to a strip map and sample strategy as originally proposed.
  • ST explained that the sink hole in Area 5 had been cored and that the sample was currently being stored at Durham University pending dating and assessment.  The excavation of the remaining fills of the sink hole would be carried during mineral extraction.  The section across the sink hole would be recorded and photographed.
  • ST said that MGA would now proceed with putting together the assessment report for the work.

Actions

LH to confirm in writing to NYCC that Area 4 has been completed.

ST to progress assessment report for Area 4 and 5.
