Fieldwalking at Ladybridge Farm started on the second of April in the southwest corner of the field. Conditions this week have been quite variable, with cold wet weather at the beginning of the week followed by blazing sunshine (and dehydration) towards the end.

So far the vast majority of finds (648 this week) have been modern or post-medieval, including pottery, ceramic building material, glass and plastic. We have, however, collected a reasonable assemblage of flint artefacts. Most of these appear to be waste material, but several scrapers have been found, as has a single barb and tang arrowhead dating to the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age.

The finds have yet to be processed, but the distribution of artefacts should be available by next weeks diary entry.

Preliminary finds processing has now been carried out on the artefacts from last week, and the distribution plots for some classes of material are illustrated below:
