Mike Griffiths has been a professional archaeologist since 1967. He has directed and managed large scale excavation programmes of both urban and rural sites. Since the mid 1970s he has specialised in planning and archaeology, first as Director of the Exeter City Archaeology Unit and then as County Archaeologist for North Yorkshire.
In 1990 he established Mike Griffiths and Associates, an independent archaeological consultancy.
He provides expert planning advice both to the public and private sectors, undertaking and contributing to the production of Environmental Statements, desk top studies, site evaluations and investigation, and overseeing major archaeological recording projects using archaeological subcontractors. He provides expert advice at appeals and inquiries.
Clients include a number of national bodies and local authorities, and a wide private sector client base including mineral operators, house builders, commercial and residential developers, planning and architectural practices.
To provide clients with a complete archaeological service the associates have links with other archaeologists and a team of environmental and landscape planners. Archaeological specialisations include geophysical, topographical and aerial survey; site evaluation and excavation, site reporting, historic building recording, conservation area advice and site interpretation. The associates can provide all the necessary elements to produce Environmental Statements.
A database of our projects is currently in preparation, and can be accessed via the projects page.
