The Nosterfield Project
The Nosterfield section of the APC web site has been superceded by the Thornborough section. Please follow the previous link for information relating to Nosterfield.
Nosterfield is situated in North Yorkshire, approximately 8 kilometres north of Ripon, and is the location of an ongoing archaeological investigation focusing on the Nosterfield Quarry, operated by Tarmac. The current investigation, which began in 1995, has revealed aspects of an immensely rich prehistoric landscape around the Thornborough Henges. The known elements of this landscape include henges, barrows, cursuses, and pit alignments, representing the most extensive complex of this type in the British Isles. Evidence relating to the Roman, post-Roman and Medieval periods has also been encountered.
