Fieldwork | 23 - 29 January 1995. Two areas investigated, A & B. A total of 11 trenches opened, 100 x 2m, Trench 2 was 200 x 2m. |

Area A | Trenches 1-6, new haul road, west of the old quarry &
an area of 4.7ha. of the Flasks. Only Trench 6 produced significant features of archaeological interest, both pits wet sieved & produced charcoal and carbonised hazelnuts (Holden 1995), burnt clay and flint spalls; marl and peat of palaeoenvironmental significance. |
Tr 1: 3 features,
pit, ditch & linear hedgerow (see OS 1853 map). Tr 2: 2 features, the continuation of hedgerow in Tr1 & modern pit; marl at SW end. Tr 3: no features, marl at south end, ground peaty. Tr 4: peaty deposits, no features, modern field drain; some marl over 1.5m deep. Tr 5: no features, peaty at north end. Tr 6: 2 features, both sub-rectangular pits. |

Area B | Trenches 7-11, east of the old quarry, 400 x 150m, 6.1ha. Produced only 3 features of interest. |

pit. Tr 8: 1 feature probably natural. Tr 9: 3 surface anomalies probably natural. Tr 10: 1 ditch terminal. Tr 11: 4 features, a possible palisade trench, a natural, a recent (JCB) and a sheep burial. |
