Investigation 12 ~ Watching Brief, 2000 (Int. 5 northeast).
Field Archaeology Specialists Ltd.

Watching Brief, 2000. Summary Details
Fieldwork January to February 2000; May 2000.
Two sessions of work uncovered limited archaeological remains.
Intervention 5 ne A ditch (E-W) ran east beyond the excavation (presumably continues beneath Flask Lane), western side terminated and continued for a short length as a pit alignment, it turned north toward an area of peat and apparently terminated.
Two small trenches cut further north failed to locate any remains of the pit alignment, although it is possible any remains were lost beneath a large land drain which crossed the site N-S, filled with pebbles and cobbles.
A scatter of small features (pits) mapped to the north of the pit alignment.
In the second session which covered ground to the west a series of linear features were mapped and investigated by limited excavation (hedge line, land drains, furrows). The area was low lying and probably covered by a peaty topsoil.
A few features produced some flint and pottery.
